E14 | Rape

Every 68 seconds someone is either raped or sexually assaulted in the United States. With this staggering statistic, in this extended episode I shed light on the pervasive and recurring act of sexual violence and the implications of trauma. With professionals from the Chicago organization, Resilience-- formerly Rape Victim Advocates-- I speak with their director of trauma therapy and the director of education and training. What might be the psychology of a rapist and what should we understand about this specific type of violence? I also speak with a survivor-- who openly shares a detailed account of survival and of the incredible journey towards healing and recovery. Advisory: Strong Language, trigger warning.
